Welcome, dear reader, to the dark side. You have found this place because you have either joined or are being tempted by the dark side -- of chocolate. As acolytes and afficionados of the wonderous cocoa bean and high cocoa content chocolate bars, we dedicate this site to the object of our passion, pure and fine dark chocolate. White chocolate, milk chocolate, liquor-filled chocolates, pralines, truffles, candy bars, and their ilk have been banished from this domain. So, if Hershey Kisses and Reese Pieces suit you better than a 70% dark chocolate bar, this place is probably not for you.

If on the other hand, you are hopelessly enticed by dark chocolate, then join me in the the search for the best dark chocolate in the world. Some would argue that this is just a fool's errand; that the best dark chocolate can never really be found and that the dark side is too mysterious and expansive to ever be conquered. That may indeed be the case, but we are still going to have a pretty delicious time of it.

You may have noticed that Uberswiss focuses quite heavily on dark chocolates from Switzerland. That is only because I am located in Switzerland and Swiss-made chocolate is quite literally plentiful and omnipresent in this part of the world. It does not mean that the best chocolate in the world is certain to come from Switzerland, nor does it mean that we will limit our search to just Swiss chocolates. In fact, Switzerland is only a starting point and I am open to reviewing (and devouring) dark chocolate from anywhere in the world, so long as I am able to acquire a sample.

As with any review system, reviewing chocolate comes down to personal preferences. My tastes do not necessary reflect your perceptions and a chocolate which I rate with the coveted 5 beans ("one of the best in the world") may taste like a smelly old shoe to you. Well, hopefully we won't experience that extreme of a difference in preference, but you never know. The point is to take all ratings with a grain of salt and, by all means, go ahead and try the chocolate yourself. In fact, feel free to post your own opinions in the comments section of any review. If you so desire, you may use the un-patented Uber-bean ratings. [See the code below for how to place Uber-beans in your comment]

Every once in a while, some intriguing story or fascinating news about dark chocolate crosses my path. These pieces of information are posted in the morsels section on the website. Morsels are meant to serve as enlightening companions on our long culinary journey, although some of you might just consider them petty diversions from our ultimate quest to find the best dark chocolate in the world.

That all there is to know. If there is something you are dying to tell me or if you've found something news-worthy in the chocolate world, drop me a mail at
