Goldkenn, Cacao Origins Trinidad Intense (62%)
Goldkenn has achieved a degree of global renown -- at least among the globe-trotting duty free shopping crowd -- through its distinctive goldbar and cigar shaped chocolates. The company also produces a line of liquor-filled chocolates, which certainly appeals to the same people who are drawn to the uppity cigar and gold products. Dark chocolate is by no means a new venture for Goldkenn, as evidenced by enticing Goldkenn dark chocolate goldbars and liquor chocolates.
Trindad intense surprises the tastebuds with light coffee and hazelnut aromas, accompanied by a pleasantly smooth texture and flavorful melt. As a Trinidad origin chocolate, the bar presumably contains Trinitario cocoa beans, a hybrid of Criollo and Forastero cocoa plants. Some chocolates take you on a progressive tour of flavors and tones, but Trinidad intense has a desirable consistency in taste, from the moment it first touches your tongue until the last morsel has melted. The chocolate definitely leans more toward the sweeter side and deftly avoids all hints of high cocoa bitterness. Overall, Trindad intense is a delicious chocolate and well worth an repeat forays into the duty free shopping zone.
