Munz, Noir (70% cacao)

Munz, along with its sister brand Minor, is perhaps best known for hazelnut praline sticks, banana and insect shaped chocolates, and other children-entincing and tourist-friendly chocolate confectionaries. Maestrani, the mother company of Munz, also runs Schoggi-Land (Chocolate World), a combined chocolate factory and tourist attraction, at its headquarters in St. Gallen.

Munz Noir is very basic dark chocolate. It is neither overly bitter, nor especially sweet, although there is a fairly distinct candied vanilla taste (a dead giveaway for vanillin, a synthetic flavoring agent and substitute for real vanilla). Like the uber-creamy Minor bars, Munz Noir is edible in limited quantities. Munz has created a bar for the mass market, which unfortunately cannot compete with the increasingly refined dark chocolate competition from other mass market producers such as Nestle and Frey.
