Suchard, Sensation Noir Orange (70%)
Previously, I reviewed Suchards Sensations Noir and discovered a "pretty good chocolate". It turns out that Suchard Sensations has more than just pure dark chocolate to offer. The brand also features a line of flavored dark chocolates. Dark chocolate purists are probably aghast at this dilution of unadorned chocolate taste, but it is nonetheless tempting to see how successful Suchard has been with their blends.
Noir Orange, as the name reveals, features an orange flavoring, in the form of candied orange peals mixed into the dark chocolate wafers. Citruses contain dominant and powerful flavors, so it is no surprise that Noir Orange's chocolate is overwhelmed by presence of orange peal bits augmented by sugar and dextrose. The blend of orange and chocolate is one of unequal partners, with chocolate losing out to its candy-coated counterpart.
